How the data you enter in the app is handled.

Last updated: 7 September 2026 · Reference version: 1.9

MyCarCost is an Android app for organising vehicle costs, fuel purchases and maintenance. It works without an account and saves your records in the app’s private storage on your device.

The developer does not receive your vehicle or transaction records and cannot access them remotely. Copies made by Android backup or exported by the user are described below.

1. App and contact details

This notice covers MyCarCost, identified by the Android package com.mariniapps.mycarcost.

Developer: Simone Marini.

For privacy questions, you can write to Simone Marini using the contact form, stating that your enquiry concerns MyCarCost.

2. Information handled in the app

MyCarCost stores information you enter or import, including:

  • vehicle name, optional registration plate and fuel types;
  • transaction dates, categories, amounts and odometer readings;
  • fuel volume, price per litre, full-tank indication and calculated fuel economy;
  • places recorded in transactions and favourite places;
  • custom categories and preferences, such as the selected vehicle and default period.

This information is used to keep your history, calculate costs and fuel economy, display statistics and suggest saved places. Processing takes place on your device.

Places are text that you enter or import: the app does not detect your GPS location or track your movements. It does not request access to contacts, microphone or camera.

3. No records stored on the developer’s servers

MyCarCost does not automatically send vehicle data, transactions or preferences to the developer. It has no user account or synchronisation with servers run by the developer.

The app contains no advertising, commercial profiling tools, usage analytics or error-reporting services that send data to the developer. The developer does not sell your records or use them for marketing.

Any processing carried out independently by the operating system, app store or services you use on your device is separate from MyCarCost’s features and is governed by the respective providers’ notices and settings.

4. Import and export

You can import transactions from Excel or CSV files and export them in Excel format. The app accesses files you choose through Android’s document picker; it does not scan all your documents.

If you choose a document or destination in a cloud service, that service may download, upload or store the file under its own terms. This does not send the file to the MyCarCost developer’s servers.

Exported files are separate copies of the app’s records. If you share them with other people or apps, their contents become accessible to the recipients you choose.

5. Backup and device transfer

MyCarCost allows Android system backup by default. You can change this at any time under Settings → Backup and privacy → Android backup. The option covers records for all vehicles, including transactions, categories, favourite places and settings.

When enabled, Android may include your records in backups, including cloud backups, or transfer them to another device through its backup system. Backup must also be enabled in your phone’s settings: the app’s switch does not enable the device’s general backup and does not guarantee that data is saved immediately or after every change.

When you turn the option off, MyCarCost does not provide your records to subsequent backup and transfer operations performed through Android’s backup system. This does not delete existing copies or prevent an earlier copy from being restored. To manage or delete those copies, use your device or service settings. Manual import and export remain available regardless of the switch.

This preference is stored only on the device and is not included in backups. It remains unchanged during normal app updates; after clearing app data, reinstalling or setting up a new device, the option returns to its enabled default. Copying tools outside Android’s backup system follow their own procedures.

These features are managed by the system and its providers; they are not a storage service offered by the developer, who has no access to the copies. Check your device’s backup settings for available options. Further information is available in the Android backup documentation.

6. Retention and deletion

Your local records remain available for as long as you keep them on your device. Transactions do not expire automatically.

You can edit and delete transactions using the app. Removing categories and places requires confirmation: if no transactions are linked to an entry, it is deleted; if it has already been used, it is deactivated to preserve your history. Deactivation does not delete the entry or its linked transactions and can be reversed by reactivating it.

To remove all local records, clear MyCarCost’s data in Android’s app settings. A normal uninstall also removes the app’s local data, unless device options allow it to be retained.

These actions do not automatically delete exported files or backups. You must manage those copies separately in the folders or services where they are stored. Restoring a backup later may bring previously saved data back into the app.

The developer cannot remotely delete records on your device or copies managed by services you have chosen.

7. Data protection

Local records are kept in the app’s private storage, subject to Android’s protection and isolation mechanisms. MyCarCost does not add its own encryption to the records or password-protect exported Excel files.

The protection of exported copies and backups also depends on the destination you choose and your device settings. Use a screen lock and keep files in locations accessible only to authorised people.

8. Website and voluntary communications

This notice describes how the app works. Visiting mariniapps.it and sending messages through its contact form are separate activities.

If you use the contact form, you provide the developer with the information you enter in the form and message: this data is not automatically taken from the app. For details about how communications and browsing data are processed, see the website and contact privacy notice: website and contact privacy notice.

You do not need to send your complete records to ask about privacy.

9. Updates

This notice may be updated if features or data-handling practices change. The date at the top indicates the latest revision. Any new collection or sharing features will be described before they are enabled and, where required, user consent will be obtained.
